2D Northern Ireland Comics Festival
5-7 June, Derry, UK
2D, The Northern Ireland Comics Festival returns this year and takes place from the 5th – 7th June in the Verbal Arts Centre and other locations in Derry, N. Ireland. The festival is organised by the Verbal Arts Centre, an educational charity, and is a celebration of comic book culture. It features workshops, signings, sketching, panel discussions and portfolio review sessions. The workshops will be held mainly on Thursday and Friday in the Verbal Arts Centre; panels will be held in a local bar on Friday and Saturday evenings and the festival will culminate on the Saturday with the Open Day. There will be a closing party on Saturday night to round things off.

ConRunner 2008
26-29 June, Wolverhampton, UK
This is the first of what is hoped will be a regular gathering of people interested and/or experienced in running fan (not-for-profit) conventions. The event is aimed at the Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Anime and Comics communities, but the skills, problems and solutions discussed probably apply to most not-for-profit conventions.

Workshop: How to Draw Manga
29 June, Eden Court, Inverness, UK
One of the organisers of the Hi-Ex comics convention in Inverness, Vicky Stonebridge, will host two workshops on How to Draw Manga. The two sessions will be for 9 to 12 year olds from 12.30 to 2.00pm, while 12 to 18 year olds will get the chance to participate between 2.30 to 4.30pm.

2008 GenCon Oz
3 - 6 July, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

2008 Denvention 3 (66th World Science Fiction Convention)
6-10 August, Colorado Convention Center, Denver, USA
The 2008 World Science Fiction Convention, a five day celebration of the science fiction field. Previous Denventions were held in Denver in 1941 and 1981; this will be the first Denvention of the new Millennium. Denvention will attract several thousand science fiction readers from around the world.

AmeCon 2008
8-10 August, University of Leicester, UK
AmeCon is the largest convention in the United Kingdom dedicated to the celebration of Japanese animation, comics and culture. Following some successful one-day events, several committee members of the Leicester Anime and Manga Club (LANMA - http://www.lanma.org.uk) decided to run a small, residential event in 2004. This event, through no fault of their own, became the largest anime convention to be hosted in the British Isles at that time. AmeCon 2008 will be running between 8-10 August 2008. You can find out further information on the website, or register today on the forum to discuss the convention or anime/manga fandom in general, ask questions or make suggestions for the convention.

FantasyCon 2008

The British Fantasy Society is proud to announce Fantasycon 2008 for Readers, Writers, Artists and Fans of the Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror genres. Octocon 08
18-19 October, Dublin, Ireland.
Octocon is the name given to the National Irish Science Fiction Convention, held annually in October. Octocon has a long history of inviting writers of great books for children: Anne McCaffery, Tanith Lee, Orson Scott Card and Terry Pratchett among them; the classic works of children’s literature have often features science-fiction and fantasy themes.
