Back From The Depths Needs You! (update)

Ξ October 15th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Blah |

by M.I.K.

Just a couple of days ’til the final deadline for submissions to the Back From The Depths horror fanzine (click that skull on the left for more info), but it seems there’s been a problem with my hotmail address and emails have been bouncing back.

So seeing as we’re not having to deal with printers and the like, you can all have another week to send stuff in, (and that can be artwork, full strips, anything horror based and already finished that you think might be suitable).

The final final deadline is now Saturday October 24th and the new email address to send stuff to is…

Temple APA Issue Five

Temple APA issue 5 is now available to download as a pdf. Features artwork and strips by Adam Grose, Dave Evans, Dave Hailwood, Paul Eldridge, Simon Mackie, Steve Tanner, Stuart Giddings, Tony Suleri and there’s five pages of old Stick-Man strips by me in there too. There’s also a feature on Insomnia Publications and a Small Press Directory and it’s all been put together by John Kirkham as usual.

File’s quite big. About 81mb I think, but that’s ‘cos it’s packed to the gunnels with stuff. Go take a look.

Misty Souvenir Special

Ξ September 19th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Blah, News |

by M.I.K.

Misty was a girls comic, the first issue of which went on sale in 1978. It was slightly unusual however, as it was also a horror comic, and rather a creepy one at that. It was published by IPC, so it could, (and probably should), be considered Scream’s gothy big sister and it was every bit as good as that description might suggest…

…and now it’s back.

The Misty Souvenir Special is now available from branches of WH Smiths newsagents in the UK. It costs £3.99 and if you take my advice, you’ll go to your nearest branch as soon as possible and purchase a copy. If for some reason you can’t, then don’t worry, because Egmont will be making it available to buy direct from their website at a later date.

Not only does the special have an excellent selection of strips, but unlike previous issues of Egmont’s “Classic Comics”, the stories featured aren’t part of longer serials. They’re all one-offs, which means you’re not left wondering what happens next.

Trust me, once you’ve read this you’ll be left wanting more and wondering why somebody doesn’t bring it back properly.

Well, actually….

Watch this space for news of a fan produced, (but completely legit and official), all new Misty special coming to you in the next few weeks! Yep.

World War Z

Ξ August 25th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Books, Reviews |

by Ghastly McNasty

A total must for any fan of the zombie genre this outstanding book by Max Brooks gives a unique perspective of the zombie outbreak and aftermath. Subtitled ‘An oral history of the zombie war’ the book consists of a series of interviews with survivors of the zombie apocalypse. It doesn’t have a standard storyline as such but the interviews follow a linear timeline streatched over 10 years that cover the origins and initial outbreaks through to the reclaiming of the world from the zombie hordes.

I’m still persevering with Kirkman’s ‘Walking Dead’ series but ‘World War Z’ manages to give me everything I hoped the meandering ‘Walking Dead’ comic would be, in one simple well written book.

This is also going to be made in to a movie to be released fairly soon and i can’t wait. Thoroughly expect this to be the best zombie movie ever made!
