Anathema is a six issue limited series horror comic that tells the story of Mercy Barlowe, a tormented young woman with a dark side. She must fight through treacherous lands and unspeakable horrors to reclaim her lover’s soul, which has been stolen by members of a sinister cult, bent on resurrecting a terrible and ancient evil. The first Anathema Kickstarter project was an overwhelming success with the funding raised paying the artist and print costs of the first issue.

Rachel says,

Now that Anathema has found a publishing home with ComixTribe, I hope to raise the funds necessary to complete the remaining 5 issues in the series! I’m asking for $20,000 to cover the cost of paying my amazing artist and colorist. All money goes to them, less Amazon and Kickstarter fees, and I don’t keep a dime for myself…UNLESS!!

Anything I raise above and beyond the goal amount will go toward getting me out to conventions this year. This will help me to be able to promote and sell Anathema to a wider audience. I love interacting with comic fans, signing merchandise, and being able to network with other comic professionals! The convention experience is a MUST for all creators in the comics industry if they hope to establish themselves.

Deering was also an editor on Womanthology, a highly successful Kickstarter funded comic which featured the work of over 140 comic lovin’ ladies. So dig deep in to your cowl’s pockets and give a little (or a lot) to this worthy comic cause. There are plenty of rewards for those who pledge, including full copies of the completed series, special artwork, or your own likeness drawn as one of the comic characters. Visit the Anathema Kickstarter Campaign now, there’s only 2 weeks left for Rachel to reach her target!

We at Back From The Depths are once again looking for contributors for our free, annual pdf horror comic, HALLOWSCREAM…

…but…

we’re also looking for contributors for something else.

That’s right. This year we’re doing not one but two creepy comics, and we need all the scares we can get. What is this second scare-filled tome? I’ll tell you what it is – it’s a Christmas special.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B_S6ByVnr4c/T1U0-L1zyWI/AAAAAAAAAT8/M_Cl04DmnYU/s400/Xmas%2BSkull%2BPudding.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716533544951728482" />

It’s yet to be named, but we’re looking for yuletide based horror yarns along with the more general stuff.

HALLOWSCREAM GUIDELINES

Ideal submissions should be horror orientated and must be weird or spooky to make the final cut. We are mainly looking for completed comic strips between 1-7 pages in length. Script submissions should also preferably be around 1-7 pages in length. Eerie illustrations and artwork along with interesting horror/comic articles, scary short stories, petrifying poems or anything just plain creepy will also be considered.

XMAS SPECIAL GUIDELINES

Identical to the Hallowscream guidelines, but submissions must have either a Christmas or winter theme. Anything which doesn’t meet that criteria will be more likely to end up in Hallowscream.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

If you’re looking to illustrate something, get in contact and we’ll give you details of available scripts.

We’ll also consider material previously published elsewhere, as long as the contributors own the copyright.

Completed artwork can be either colour or black and white, and should preferably be A4 (21cm x 29.7cm) 300 dpi jpegs.

Submissions can be sent to merjeagles@yahoo.co.uk or ghastlymcnasty@backfromthedepths.co.uk

As this is a non-profit, small press publication, contributors will not be paid but they will retain copyright on any material submitted.

DEADLINES

Deadlines for the Hallowe’en and Christmas editions are identical. There’s no need to point out which issue your story is meant for, as it should be obvious from the story’s content.

Scripts, articles and text submissions : Sunday 22nd July

Artwork : Sunday 7th October

Completed strips : Sunday 21st October.

The finished issue of Hallowscream will be available online for FREE on October 31st. The finished issue of the Christmas special will likely be available online for FREE mid-December.

You will also be able to purchase print version via the online publishing site Lulu.

Hallowscream is a global horror comic that brings artists and writers together from around the world. The project is open to both amateur and professional comic creators and you can see the mix of styles and stories for yourself in the first two issues on the Hallowscream site.

In March of this year we announced details of Hallowscream 2011 on various platforms around the internet. From that announcement we received loads of stories from eager horror writers all looking to see their work appear in an online comic. Some of these terrifying tales were already in script format while others arrived as spooky short stories or even petrifying poems. We were then able to match these stories to comic artists who had answered our call and wanted to be a part of Hallowscream. We also received a few completed horror strips from existing comic creators which had yet to be published. This year’s issue features the work of contributors from America, Australia, UK (where it all began) and the rest of Europe!

Visit the IndieGoGo site to find out more details and to pledge money to this project. Make sure you check out the promotional video and take a look at the rewards you get for pledging money to the cause.

If the full target is not reached then the campaign will be cancelled and this fang-tastic comic will not be printed. It’s all or nothing by October 31st.

The 3rd issue of Hallowscream, the Scream! inspired horror anthology is set to be released this coming Halloween. This community based project brings together horror writers and artists to produce a yearly comic filled with fearsome stories and creepy comic capers. We have been busy reading horror comic scripts and stories from writers and matching them to artists looking to illustrate a complete strip. It’s a unique project ideal for those looking to break in to the industry and for those established contributors looking for a platform to promote their work.

Thanks to a huge response from horror comic creators around the world this year’s issue will be the best yet! We are now no longer accepting story submissions for this year’s edition of Hallowscream. A massive thank you to all those who have sent in a story. Not every submitted story has been selected to appear in the 2011 issue. Don’t worry though, there’s always next year.

We have a load of finished stories already with many more still being worked on. For those artists out there still furiously drawing and painting the official deadline date for final submissions is Sunday 23rd October. Please make sure you have submitted the completed work by that date. Anything later and we cannot guarantee it will make it in to the comic.

LAST CHANCE SALOON: If you’re an comic creator still looking to be part of this awesome project and believe you could illustrate a story before the the deadline (2 months away) then get in touch immediately. We have plenty of great stories that need bringing to life at the hands of a talented artist.

The finished issue will be available online on October 31st 2011. For more information and to get involved visit the dedicated Hallowscream Forum over on HorrorComics.org

Creators C Michael Hall, Matt Upson and Dustin Evans have made a 23 page PDF horror comic story based in the College’s library. As slobbering zombies are attacking from all sides the comic book’s heroes attempt to solve the problems using the resources available to them in the library. It’s a great way of making a dull subject interesting, as well as educating it’s members on various methods of zombie disposal.

This gripping zombie adventure has been downloaded over six hundred and fifty thousand times! Wan’t to see what all the fuss is about. You can download the zombie packed action adventure by clicking right here.

We at Back From The Depths are once again looking for contributors for our free, annual pdf horror comic, HALLOWSCREAM. Here’s this year’s guidelines (with a new email address to send stuff to)…

Ideal submissions should be horror orientated and must be weird or spooky to make the final cut. We are mainly looking for completed comic strips between 1-7 pages in length. Script submissions should also preferably be around 1-7 psges in length. Eerie illustrations and artwork along with interesting horror/comic articles, scary short stories, petrifying poems or anything just plain creepy will also be considered.

We have a substantial backlog of scripts in need of an artist, so if you’re looking to illustrate something, get in contact and we’ll give you details of what’s available.

DEADLINES :

Scripts, articles and text submissions : Sunday 24th July

Artwork : Sunday 9th October

Completed strips : Sunday 23rd October.

The finished issue will be available online on October 31st.

For more info and to find out how to get involved join the Hallowscream dedicated forum on HorrorComics.org

This is actually John’s final issue and someone new will be taking over from issue seven. Hopefully this new bloke won’t make a total mess of things or sully the memory of what has gone before. This is of particular concern to myself because I’m the new bloke. So, I’d like to take the opportunity to wish Mr. Kirkham well in his future endeavours and I promise to try my hardest not to ruin everything.

To download Issue Six right click here and “Save Target As…” or “Save Link As…” if you’re using Firefox. File size is 50.6 MB.

Night Zero is a photo comic book that pretty much stands out in it’s field. Very professionally made it harkes back to a time when Doomlord used same technique in some of the older issues of Eagle. Check out the blurb below and visit the site to read for yourself

NIGHT ZERO is a photo comic book, or fumetti, produced on location in Seattle, Washington. It is a collaboratively-driven project that blends the talents of writers, actors, photographers, digital artists, and film crews, to create a graphic novel unlike any other.

THE STORY
Set in the months following a deadly viral outbreak, NIGHT ZERO follows the lives of the surviving population of Seattle, Washington. Holding together in the New City, a semblance of normalcy barricaded against the terrors of the world outside, those still alive have no choice but to throw their lots in with the rest and make a new future.

THE LOOK
NIGHT ZERO is produced like a feature film, shot on-location with a full cast and crew, complete with sets, props, and costumes. Using the emerging technology of High Dynamic Range photography (HDR) and a process called tonemapping, our digital artists are able to transform the images into a unique visual style somewhere between photography and illustration. There is no tracing or hand drawing superimposed on the photographs– the “illustrated” style is purely the result of the HDR photography method.

You can find more information about this amazing project and read the comic stories in full by visiting the Night Zero website.

If you’re interested in the spectacular zombie horror game Left 4 Dead then you may want to check out Left 5 Dead also from the creators of Night Zero. The artistic after-touches applied to these photographs create an amazing effect. Top notch work!

Well then horror comic fans I have an absolute beauty of a find for you here in the amazing horror comic website Split Lip. This site features the stories of horror writer Sam Costello whose chilling and inventive work has been brought to life by a range of extremely talented artists. For all aspiring comic artists and writers with an interest in the horror genre this website is essential reading!

At the time of writing this post I have enjoyed 4 of the 20 stories available on this site and will certainly return to get my fill of horror before bedtime tonight. The site seems to be updated with a new story every month or two and this month’s offering ‘Bad Radio’ is a good place to delve in to this terrorific site as any. I won’t give anything away but the story is pretty disturbing, exactly what you would want from a horror comic.

The artwork above is just a sample of some of the talented artists that Sam Costello has persuaded to draw his twisted stories. I urge you to visit this site and bath in the glorious horror that is Split Lip.
